Academic content

Purpose: The student will acquire knowledge about newer and older research results in Faroese syntax.
Learning outcomes: Students who successfully complete the course can demonstrate ability to: • explain the main characteristics of Faroese syntax • analyze Faroese syntax • compare Faroese syntax to the other Nordic languages and explain differences and similarities • use the course material in his/her future work with Faroese
Content: Faroese will be described and analyzed based on older and more recent research in Faroese syntax. We will read chapter 5 in Faroese. An Overview and Reference grammar (2004; 2012). The students will furthermore read different recent and older articles about topics in Faroese syntax, and we will read parts of Føroysk mállæra II. Syntaks and Språket som superkraft.
Learning and teaching approaches: Lecture, presentations, group-work, discussions.
