- Secondary education or equivalent qualifications.
- Language of instruction
- The course is taught in Faroese. The textbooks and other instructional materials are in English and Danish. Lectures, presentations, exercises etc. are in Faroese.

- Students on the fourth semester of Bachelor of Social Science in Politics and Administration and Bachelor of Social Science in Social Science are automatically enrolled. Applicants for an individual course apply via the Faculty of History and Social Sciences Office.

- Purpose
- The purpose of this course is to give the students a solid understanding of qualitative methods commonly used in the social sciences.
- Learning outcomes
- After completing the course, the students will: • Be able to describe the qualitative methods they have learned during the course. • Be able to explain the advantages and disadvantages associated with different qualitative methods. • Have the ability to independently evaluate the strength of qualitative sources. • Be able to independently and consciously make decisions regarding methodological choices in empirical research. • Be able to use the methods they have learned during the course to complete a research project in praxis.
- Content
- The students are taught the most commonly used qualitative methods such as interview, observation, document analysis and biographical methods, as well as how to interpret and analyse qualitative data. The students are also introduced to ethical questions associated with qualitative research.

- Lectures, exercises, group work, and student presentations.
Assessment
- Assessment method
- Oral exam based on a written synopsis and the distributed bibliography. The students write the synopsis independently and it shall be between 1.800-2.000 words.
