Academic content
Purpose
The purpose of this course is to enable students to successfully write an assignment based on a research question on a topic of their own choice. In their analysis and discussion of the research question students are required to draw on learning from the foregoing course modules. The assignment is designed to demonstrate students’ ability to interlink theory, methods and critical analysis.
Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete the course can demonstrate ability to:  Apply selected management concepts, management theory and methods to work on their own project.  Demonstrate in practice the skills to make informed and critical choices of theory and methods in relation to a research question and any ethical considerations linked to data processing.  Assess subject-specific books on management and research papers, which are relevant to the research question.  Organise their own work and results in a cohesive thesis, and on this basis arrive at relevant and founded conclusions and perspectives.  Analyse the interplay between organisational conditions and management.  Communicate research and research-based knowledge about management, both orally and in writing.
Content
Students will be taught how to write a paper based on a research-question. There will be particularly emphasis on research design 1: meaning research question formulation, empirical data collection, theory-based analysis and critical theory of science discussion.
Learning and teaching approaches
Lectures coupled with individual supervision and independent work. Teaching will be organised as lectures and workshops in three seminars each lasting 2 days (Fridays and Saturdays). Students will have the opportunity to present their research question, literature review, methodology and discussion, which will be analysed and discussed (peer-to-peer and feedback from lecturers). This exercise will take place in group and full class settings. In addition to the teaching provided, individual supervision will be offered as needed, up to 5 hours.
