Academic content
- Purpose
- The purpose is to provide students with a thorough understanding of anthropology as a scientific discipline with special focus on theory, methodology and academic discourse in social anthropology today.
- Learning outcomes
- On completion of the course, students must be able to: • Understand basic concepts of anthropology and know how to explain important anthropologicall theories. • Know how to critically assess the explanatory power of these theories. • Are able to use the anthropological concepts and theories to provide an independent description and analysis of societal subjects. • Are able to use anthropological methods and anthropological perspectives in social science projects.

- Anthropological key concepts, e.g. culture, person, value, identity and power The historical development of anthropology as discipline Classic and new anthropological theory The subjects in Faroese and global contextualization Ethnographic and anthropological methods and research practices
- Learning and teaching approaches
- The lessons are organised as lectures, presentations, discussions, group work and reading.
