Academic content
Purpose
The purpose is to provide students with a thorough understanding of anthropology as a scientific discipline with special focus on theory, methodology and academic discourse in social anthropology today.
Learning outcomes
On completion of the course, students must be able to: • Understand basic concepts of anthropology and know how to explain important anthropologicall theories. • Know how to critically assess the explanatory power of these theories. • Are able to use the anthropological concepts and theories to provide an independent description and analysis of societal subjects. • Are able to use anthropological methods and anthropological perspectives in social science projects.

 Anthropological key concepts, e.g. culture, person, value, identity and power  The historical development of anthropology as discipline  Classic and new anthropological theory  The subjects in Faroese and global contextualization  Ethnographic and anthropological methods and research practices
Learning and teaching approaches
The lessons are organised as lectures, presentations, discussions, group work and reading.
