The student must have completed the first part of the BA in Faroese or equivalent. It is also possible to take the course as a single course with other prerequisites (refer to the programme description in force).

Academic content
Purpose
The purpose of the course is for the students to acquire knowledge of the principles and theories of multilingualism. The students also gain insight into multilingualism and second language acquisition in a diverse linguistic and cultural landscape, both internationally and locally, with special emphasis on the Faroese context.
Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete the course can demonstrate ability to: • Explain and use concepts within the subject of mulitlingulism • Explain and reflect on second language acquisition in a Faroese context • Describe and discuss the importance of language for identity with regard to second language acquisition • Explain and discuss multilingualsim in relation to working life, learning and in the public • Explain and discuss multilingualism in a Faroese context
Content
The course covers the following main topics: • Theories of multilingualism and second language acquistion • Language acquisition and different learning conditions e.g. for young people, families and historically • Language and identity of the multilingual • Multilingualism in a Faroese context
Learning and teaching approaches
Classes are organized as teacher presentations, self-study, student presentations, and discussions. Smaller assignments and group work are also part of the course.

Oral half-hour presentation with 1-3 days preparation on given topic.
