Academic content
- Purpose
- IS to provide students with a foundation in Faroese history predating 1500 AD and the conditions that shaped it, as well as an overview of significant research available in the area and core skills in assessing the quality of selected works and source materials. This course is also aimed at anyone with a general interest in older Nordic history with special focus on the Faroe Islands
- Learning outcomes
- Successful students can demonstrate ability to: • Identify connections between phenomena in Early Faroese History • Assess selected works/views on Early Faroese History • Assess different sources on a clearly defined topic in Early Faroese History • Independently present and examine a specific topic in Early Faroese History
- Content
- This course will provide students with a foundation in Faroese history before 1500 AD and how it intersects with the course of history in neighbouring countries, as well as literature on the subject.
- Learning and teaching approaches
- The duration of the course is approximately 14 lessons. Learning and teaching strategies include lectures, exercises and debates. At the beginning of the course, students select a topic on which they prepare a presentation for the rest of the class.

- Assessment method
- Oral with preparation. The student will be given ½ hour preparation time and is allowed access to all course materials whiles in the preparation room. The examination question will be directed at one topic from the course materials, but other questions, that offers perspective, will also be asked.
