Academic content
- Purpose
- The course should give students advanced theoretical tools to analyze and discuss media and political communications and their implications for social and political life in the 21. century.
- Learning outcomes
- When the course is completed, the student should be able to: - Show an understanding of a variety of theory on the media and political communication. - Identify and analyze relevant scientific literature on the media and political communication. - Analyze and discuss key themes in media and political communication and their implications for democracy and welfare. Reflect on the above-mentioned issues in relation to small states and islands
- Content
- The course addresses theory and concepts in media and political communications from an international and Faroese perspective. It employs a historical, philosophical, politological and sociological perspective on the media, mediatization and political communications. The course examines the connection between media culture, media system, media technology and media production. The critical question is how mediatization influences social and political life, and – in extension – which challenges arise for welfare and democracy.

- The course is based on a combination of lectures, student presentations and writing assignments.
