Academic content
Purpose
The objective of the course is to provide the students with insight in the theoretical and conceptual aspects within the CSR literature, and hereby the students will have the independent ability to use the in practice in Faroese context.
Learning outcomes
When the course is finished, the student will be able to analyze and assess how CSR practices could work in the Faroese context. The student must independently be able to: • Disseminate this knowledge and demonstrate this competence convincingly and with an academic skilled problem-oriented focus. Orally and in writing. • Present and discuss theoretical perspectives on what CSR is, and how CSR practices work. • Analyze and discuss pros and cons regarding the different approaches used by organizations in relation to CSR (management practices, stakeholder engagement, organizational structures, and reporting). • Analyze how CSR practices are affected by, and affect, the environment related to CSR context. • Use relevant material from the curriculum to understand and explain internal and external challenges for organizations – in relation to CSR. Hereby, the student will be able to provide advice on, and direction for, how these challenges should be controlled. • Conduct critical assessment of how and why theories and concepts are relevant in concrete situations.
Content
The student will be introduced to the basic concepts of sustainability and CSR, and examines their distinctive elements in relation to Faroese context. The student will get the opportunity to examine key sustainability and CSR themes and issues. In doing so, students will investigate how these are distinctive from, and similar to, those in other national business systems. The course will enable the student to consider specific Faroese companies and other relevant organizations in these matters (in national and international context).
Learning and teaching approaches
Lectures, group work, exercises and presentations, which support the development of leading CSR work in practice.
