Academic content
- Purpose
- To provide students with knowledge of ecotoxicology and pollution, environmental chemistry, as well as the interaction between pollutants, the environment, and living organisms and ecosystems
- Learning outcomes
- By the end of the course, students should be able to: • Understand the sources, types, exposure, and fate of environmental pollutants. • Mention the most important functional groups determining the environmental properties of organic pollutants. • Understand toxicokinetics and toxicodynamics, focusing on the uptake, distribution, and internal processing of toxicants, their interactions within organisms, and their potential for bioaccumulation and environmental impact. • Apply methods for detecting, quantifying, and monitoring environmental pollutants. • Evaluate the ecological and health impacts of pollutants using risk assessment methodologies.
- Content
- Ecotoxicology. Environmental toxicology. Environmental chemistry. Pollutants. Environmental compartments. Partitioning. Toxicokinetics. Toxicodynamics and molecular interactions. Bioaccumulation. Population ecotoxicology. Risk assessment and regulation.
