- Prerequisites
- The purpose of the course is to consider and analyse politologial and social scientific topics which are relevant for the Faroe Islands and other small states and islands. With this in mind, the purpose is for students to acquire concepts and theory to analyse diverse social scientific and politological topics, which are particularly prominent in small states and islands. Furthermore, the purpose is to analyse similarities and differences of small and larger political and cultural societies and consider the importance of societal size.

- Purpose
- Underpinning the course is the research literature on small states and islands covering: • Key concepts and theories in the study of Small States and Islands. • Selected social scientific topics pertaining to small states and islands, e.g., gender, social relations, and culture. • Selected politiological topics pertaining to small states and islands, e.g., international politics, political institutions, and administration.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon completion of the course, the student shall be able to: • Communicate orally and in writing an academic understanding of selected topics pertaining to small states and islands. • Analyse and discuss selected social scientific and politological topics and consider these in the context of small states and islands. • Analyse similarities and differences of small and larger societies with respect to selected empirical topics. • Identify concrete problems or challenges in small states and islands. Consider the importance of societal size for social scientific and politological research.

- Underpinning the course is the research literature on small states and islands covering: • Key concepts and theories in the study of Small States and Islands. • Selected social scientific topics pertaining to small states and islands, e.g., gender, social relations, and culture. • Selected politiological topics pertaining to small states and islands, e.g., international politics, political institutions, and administration.
- Learning and teaching approaches
- The course is based on a combination of lectures, student presentations, seminars, and group work.

- Assessment method
- In-class presentation. Pass/fail assessment and a prerequisite to qualify for the written individual assignment. Compulsory attendance for entire day of presentations. Time bound written individual assignment (4-5.000 words) Students must pass both assessments individually.
