Academic content
- Purpose
- The purpose of this course is for the student to understand, on an overall level, the various factors that management in the public and private sectors must handle in connection with organizational strategy work. This means understanding the theoretical part and the practical part in connection with internal and external conditions and how organizational strategy is developed, implemented and evaluated
- Learning outcomes
- • Apply research and knowledge of strategy to the development of the organization, together with which management virtues are necessary in this connection • Explain, analyze and assess the importance of meaning creation, communication and social relations, in connection with strategy work in organizations • Elucidate and explain how the complexity of late modern society affects public and private organizations in connection with strategy work • Elucidate the need for and critically select strategic management measures in connection with conditions that require improvement • Explain and analyze how to lead employees in relation to strategy, e.g. how strategy turns into concrete and firm tasks.

- • Classic and modern theories and research regarding organizational strategy • Time horizon and strategy • Deliberative and emerging strategy • Multistrategic leadership • How strategy is part of mission and vision • Strategy work in relation to ESG (Environmental, Social Governance) • Communication and "translation" of strategy to employees
- Learning and teaching approaches
- Lectures; group work; discussions; practice-based assignments, such as observation, mapping, strategy design within the student’s own organisation; student presentations; and individual study.
Assessment
- Assessment method
- Oral examination lasting 30 min. The assessment begins with a 20 min. presentation. This presentation must make clear what the student has learnt about strategic management , and how this learning and knowledge leads to action and is visible in their own practice, own organisation and management position. The assessment will conclude with an unprepared dialogue on management practice (approx. 8 to 10 min.)
