Academic content
- Purpose
- The purpose of the course is for the student to acquire knowledge and insight into the main elements of the subject of Christianity and Religious Studies in primary and secondary school.
- Learning outcomes
- On completion of the course, students must be able to - Define basic religious and philosophical concepts. - Analyze and interpret selected Biblical texts using relevant hermeneutics. - Point out differences between denominations and between different views of the sacraments – and explain how these are seen in different types of expressions. - Explain the main points of church history. - Explain the central elements of Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Judaism, nature religion and ideologcal worldviews.
- Content
- The course has five main components: - Religion, philosophy and ethics (basic concepts). This includes the identity markers, as they are mentioned in the syllabus. - - Significant Bible texts and narratives (including: origin, structure, genres, hermeneutics). - Main elements of Christian beliefs, arts and culture – contemporary as well as historical (Lutheran theology, denominations, sacraments, artistic and musical expressions). - Church history (main periods in church history from Jewish origins until present times). - Other religions and world views.

- Lectures, external teachers, reading, plenary discussions, group work, presentations, written assignments.

- Assessment method
- Active participation. Throughout the course the students will have oral presentations and will hand in written assignments. These must be completed in order to pass the course.
