Purpose
Endamál Purpose The purpose of this course is for students to gain insight into educational theories and teaching methods in social studies and to develop the skills to implement these in teaching social studies in primary and early secondary school. Additionally, students will gain insight into teaching materials produced for the subject. They will develop the skills to assess how these materials can be used in their teaching and integrate these with other supportive resources to keep the teaching current. The student will learn to use various media and technologies. Emphasis is also placed on using society, the local community, and the school as teaching resources. Students must be able to integrate the above with the content of Social Studies as a Teaching Subject: Economic, Sociological and Political Theory. Overall, the aim is for the student to acquire the skills to teach social studies in primary and early secondary school.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student must be able to: - Explain the structure of the social studies curriculum and how it is to be read. - Select parts of the curriculum and apply them in relevant teaching contexts. - Evaluate different educational theories in social studies and the advantages and disadvantages of various teaching methods. - Justify the choice of teaching methods in connection with different teaching processes and situations, including selecting materials for various class levels. - Design complete teaching processes in the subject and justify the choice of content, teaching approach, etc. - Design smaller assignments based on current materials that can be used in teaching. - Critically evaluate sources of various types.

- Educational theories, concepts and methods in teaching sociology. - The social studies curriculum: analysis of content, purpose and structure; how to use the curriculum. - Resources for the school subject, especially Faroese materials in social studies, produced by Nám for the early secondary level. - Other resources for the subject, including resources in other languages. - Designing assignments based on current social events and materials. - Source criticism.
Learning and teaching approaches
Lectures, independent study, discussions, group work, field trips, problem-solving, assignment creation, and peer teaching.
