- Purpose
- In this course, students will acquire insight into basic theories and concepts in the theory of science, will become able to compare scientific traditions that have shaped educational studies, and will become aware of how these traditions are relevant in the profession of social educators.
- Learning outcomes
- On completing the course, students should be able to • explain basic concepts and issues in the theory of science • explain and compare various scientific theories and use them in a social educational context

- • Theory of Science – what is it? • Basic concepts and issues in the history of science • Positivism • Hermeneutics • Phenomenology • Constructivist schools, especially social constructivism • Other theories
