Academic content
- Purpose
- The purpose of the course is for the students to gain insight into the teaching profession. The student will gain an understanding of the primary and upper secondary school's tasks in the 21st century - and which cultural, social and cognitive factors affect the development and learning opportunities of today's children and young people. The student will also gain insight into what characterizes good teaching and different teaching methods
- Learning outcomes
- On completion of the course, students must be able to: • explain how one's own school experiences have influenced one's view of learning and teaching • explain what international school researchers say about good teaching in the 21st century • assess what characterizes the lives of children and young people today - both in school and outside school • assess what the purpose of the primary and upper secondary school is - among other things based on the Primary Schools Act and curricula • group and compare basic learning and developmental psychology directions • reflect on and discuss the connection between learning theories on the one hand and concrete teaching methods on the other • give short presentations on selected educational topics

- The course is in 7 parts. Each part has its own content. • The student teacher's own schooling and learning experiences (Autobiography, school history and personal understanding of learning) • The Faroese public school (Socialisation, bildung, laws and regulations in the school area) • Children and youth culture • Good teaching – studies and meta-studies (“The empirical turn”) • Research-based teaching • Developmental psychology and learning psychology (Theories about behavior, motivation, development of the self, cognition and language • Different teaching approaches (from learning theory to teaching method)

- Lectures, cooperative teaching methods, individual work, case work, discussion groups, independent tasks, writing and drawing exercises, presentations one by one and in groups.

- Assessment method
- Active participation. The students are given work-questions or assignments every week, which they must answer and/or present in plenary. Before the end of the course, the students are given the task of preparing and carry out an oral presentation for lecturers, censor and classmates This task is solved in groups of two or three and is based on the learning outcomes for the course.
