Prerequisites
A bachelor level degree in Health Science or other relevant bachelor’s degree, including professional bachelor’s degrees (e.g. nursing, social education, primary and secondary teaching, social work, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, social science or medical technology). Each application will be assessed on an individual basis. Basic course in theory of science and research methods at master’s level or equivalent.
Language of instruction
The course is taught in Faroese. Instructional materials are mainly in Danish, as well as in English and other Scandinavian languages. Lectures, group work, discussions etc. are in Faroese.
Registration
Students on the second semester of Master in Health Science are automatically enrolled.

Purpose
The purpose of this course is for students to acquire science-based knowledge about Faroese research in health sciences, to develop capabilities to assess national and international research in health sciences, as well as developing skills to analyse qualitative and quantitative data.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student must be able to: - Explain research in health sciences within the Faroe Islands - Explain ethical considerations in relation to research in health sciences and assess ethical challenges within small-scale societies such as the Faroe Islands. - Analyse and assess concrete data applying statistical analyses. - Analyse and assess concrete data applying qualitative analyses. - Develop a project description in accordance with procedures set out by the Research Council Faroe Islands or other similar research funding bodies.
Content
This course will focus on: - Health research in the Faroe Islands - Quantitative methods, specifically statistics - Qualitative methods and the foundations of scientific theory - Ethical considerations in the context of research in health sciences - Developing a research project description
Learning and teaching approaches
Teaching and learning is organised as alternating lectures, group assignments, presentations and self-study. Oral and written feedback on this course will be provided by both lecturers and fellow students.

Individual written assignment. 50% of the final exam mark is determined by course work.
