- Prerequisites
- Health science degree at bachelor level, or other relevant bachelor’s degrees, including professional bachelor’s degrees (e.g. nursing, social pedagogy, education, social work, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, social science or medical lab analyst) Applications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
- Language of instruction
- The course is taught in Faroese. Instructional materials are mainly in Danish, as well as in English and other Scandinavian languages. Lectures, group work, discussions etc. are in Faroese.
- Registration
- Students on the second semester of Master in Health Science are automatically enrolled.

Academic content
- Purpose
- For students to acquire an understanding of different views on health and illness. For students to acquire an understanding of health pedagogy and how health measures can be implemented. For students to acquire the ability to analyse and assess health measures in society based on international models on health behaviour and sociological theory.
- Learning outcomes
- Students who successfully complete the module can demonstrate ability to: · explain various views on health and illness · explain preventive and health promoting measures at micro, meso and macro level · explain and analyse health behaviour at individual, interpersonal and environmental level · assess health pedagogy considerations in relation to health measures · analyse health measures based on the experience of relevant target groups · explain considerations in relation to the implementation of health measures · reflect on the individual’s right to autonomous decision-making in relation to health measures

- The contents of teaching and learning is: · Views on health and illness · Preventive measures at primary, secondary and tertiary level · Health promotion theories · Health education concepts and tools · Theories and models on behavioural changes at the individual, interpersonal and environmental level · Opportunities and barriers to changes in health behaviour based on sociological theory at micro and meso level · Opportunities and barriers to implementation of health measures · Debate on how health measures can strip individuals and groups of autonomy
- Learning and teaching approaches
- Teaching and learning is organised as alternating lectures, dialogue, group work and self-study.
