Language of instruction
The course is taught in Faroese. Instructional materials are mainly in Danish, as well as in English and other Scandinavian languages. Lectures, group work, discussions etc. are in Faroese.
Registration
Students on the 7th semester of Bachelor of Science in Nursing are automatically enrolled.

Academic content
Purpose
For students to acquire knowledge about different care methods and organisational cultures. For students to acquire the skills and capacity to practice as nurses: meaning to perform, lead, communicate and develop nursing, which is health promoting, health preserving and preventive, as well as therapeutic, rehabilitating and palliative. For students to acquire the ability to lead clinical nursing and make clinical decisions across practitioner disciplines, areas and institutions, as well as in the home of patients/clients.
Learning outcomes
Students who successfully complete the module can demonstrate ability to: · deliver basic and complex nursing rooted in ethical considerations and reflection · take reasoned clinical decisions based on research knowledge and practice · describe the care methods used at the clinical placement setting and their impact on clinical nursing · reflect on what might impact on organisational culture and organisational structure in the clinical placement setting · plan, perform, prioritise and coordinate nursing for allocated patients in stable, complex and acute patient care trajectories · document nursing using the documentation tools in use at the clinical placement · reflect critically on any nursing care delivered, both in writing and orally · assess opportunities and barriers in relation to the implementation of development and research findings in clinical nursing · collaborate within and across disciplines in order to ensure a coherent care pathway for patients. · meet the individual patient and their next of kin and remain empathetic, ethical and reflexive in all nursing situations · adapt professional communication taking into account the patient’s situation and circumstances · reflect on professional communication with patients, next of kin and other practitioners · manage the administration of medication and infusion therapy to patients in stable, complex and acute patient pathways · based on the most up to date knowledge, teach and guide patients and next of kin · deliver teaching to colleagues and other practitioners on an independently selected topic · assess their own learning needs in relation to the learning outcomes
Content
Teaching and learning is organised as: · 1/3 week presentations at clinical placement: Relationships in brief encounters · 2/3 week theory on management in nursing · 11 weeks clinical teaching and learning Contents of the theory teaching and learning on management: · Introduction to management · The hospital system as an organisation · Nursing practice management · Clinical management of nursing · Organisational culture · Care methods Contents of the clinical theory and teaching: · Performing, communicating, managing and developing basic and complex nursing · Clinical management of nursing · One required study activity as part of this placement period
Learning and teaching approaches
Theory teaching and learning is organised as alternating lectures, dialogue and group work. Clinical teaching and learning is organised as practice-oriented study. Practice-oriented study means that students independently plan, perform, asses and develop nursing with a qualified nurse as their supervisor. Students have the opportunity to perform, lead, communicate and develop nursing, including working with patients and accompanying them through their care and treatment pathway. The portfolio will be used as a tool for practice, reflections and assessment.
